Rebekah Pesicka-Parlee has a unique and diverse background which is celebrated in the many artistic talents she has demonstrated throughout her professional art career which began in 1990 at the age of fifteen. Her earliest limited edition prints were pencil drawings of wildlife art and First Nations people, inspired exclusively by her exposure to the wild and rugged lifestyle of commercial fishing and her families homestead in isolated Jennis Bay, Drury Inlet, British Columbia, Canada.
Rebekah’s natural talents were complimented by the completion of her BFA at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, BC in 2005. In 1998, she received a substantial bursary from the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation for her representational work. In 2001, Rebekah’s final grad project - two larger than life bronze heron sculpture - sold while on display in the elegant Herons Restaurant next to Canada Place in Vancouver. Rebekah’s work is sold in numerous galleries on Vancouver Island and the BC Coast. Recently, the Black Bear Resort in Port McNeill, BC purchased 70 of her limited edition prints to display in their guest rooms and main lobby. Rebekah is commited to reproducing her work in very small limited editions to maintain its integral value as fine quality collectable art.
In 2001, Rebekah and her husband Kevin Parlee purchased a heritage home built in the early 1900’s by a Finnish fishing family in the small community of Sointula on Malcolm Island in BC. On the property is a large boathouse which Rebekah and her husband have carefully restored to honour the craftsmanship of the day and serve as an inspirational space to showcase her art. Rebekah plans to open the ‘Boathouse Gallery’ in Sointula in July of 2006.
Today Rebekah continues to compliment her artistic career with her business as an owner/operator of a commercial prawn fishing boat in the months of May and June. The rest of the year her focus is on creating a unique artistic experience in the Boathouse Gallery. The gallery offers a large studio space for pottery, wood sculptures, stained glass, painting, ceramic sculpture, dance and music. Rebekah will be offering workshops and use of the studio for those interested in holding their own workshops, using the facilities for personal expression and/or performing. The Boathouse Gallery is the result of Rebekah’s life long vision of a thriving art and cultural community on northern Vancouver Island, BC.
