Artist and visionary, Marius Starkey has been creating his uniquely beautiful works for over 25 years.
The works of art created by Marius capture great emotion and the results are different aspects of the human psyche contained within each and every unique creation. Each piece is a personal journey for him. Feelings and emotions relating to each painting must be processed and digested with every brush stroke. The images that he captures are ethereal and beautiful, all of them “other-worldly” in appearance.
Standing before a blank canvas, Marius surrenders to and becomes absorbed by the whiteness of the canvas itself while searching for a private and quiet place deep within. Then, with brush in hand and paints by his side, he begins the process of awakening to a new world within him – another aspect of Marius the man that he is yet to explore.
Due to the involved process that Marius ritually undergoes, every painting is done over a series of individual time frames and sessions so as to capture the full expression that he has come to expect each painting should demonstrate.
“My commitment as an artist is to produce evocative images that reflect the culture and physical environment that surrounds me. My search includes symbolism, religion and philosophy. My colors become symbols for emotional states: Fear, hate, joy, love, and excitement, depending on what experiences and beliefs the viewer brings to the paintings. I show these emotions with color and composition that I hope are compelling to the viewer and allow different perceptions to develop slowly. My aesthetic concern is to show that life is more than daily consciousness. I use mystery and ritual in my paintings: they are conceived and produced as direct response to my environment. For this reason my work is time and location specific.”
